Artist: H. Gray - Henri Boulanger was also known by the pseudonym "Gray" or "H. Gray" which he adopted early in his career. Gray began his career as an illustrator, contributing his works to magazines and journals. In 1882, he was a principal artist for a magazine called Paris's Amuse. He then moved to Chronique Parisienne where he was also a principal artist designing the covers for the magazine. He produced a number of posters during the height of the poster craze in Paris, which remain sought after throughout the world today.

Description: This is an extremely scarce original poster for Phebus, Paris. A falling angel reaches towards a spinning wheel. This iconic poster is much sought after but this one does have its issues. It has a "C" rating as it has age cracks, paper flaking and inpainting in the blue background. The angel and lettering is pretty much, if not totally original. The margins have been rebuilt. Examples of this poster in A condition can exceed $5000 dollars. This poster is priced low due to the condition. If you are looking for a mint copy, the internet abounds in fakes. If you'd like an example of a less than perfect original, this poster is priced for you! In over twenty years of collecting this is the only one I've ever come across.
