Date: 1966
Size: 23.75" x 39" (60 x 99cms)
Condition: A, newly linenbacked.
Artist: Georges Mathieu (27 January 1921 Boulogne-sur-Mer – 10 June 2012 Boulogne-Billancourt) was a French abstract painter, art theorist and member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He is considered one of the fathers of European lyrical abstraction, a trend of informalism.
Description: In 1966 the airlines company Air France commissioned Mathieu to create a series of posters for its future advertising campaign. The series featured paintings of some major destinations (New York, Brazil, Japan, Germany...), all in the style of lyrical abstraction, designed for the graphical coherence between the countries and their representation. This example features the icon Canada Goose as a representation of Canada. Very good condition, some minor creases.
