Artist: Jean d'Ylen, alias Jean Paul Beguin (1886 - 1938 ), was a French painter, illustrator and poster artist. He was one the first poster artists who employed an imagery close to surrealism. He was a disciple and admirer of Leonetto Cappiello;. After a career start as a designer of jewelery, he became an illustrator advertising for the publishing company Vercasson Paris, where, despite being considered a low level painter, took the place of Leonetto Cappiello. He was fired for political reasons in 1918 during the first World War.
In his career he worked for many companies, including Fratelli Branca , whose company museum displayed some of his works including Shell, Cantine Florio and Chocolat Pupier.
